Speaking with media, the Oscar winner commented, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off. But it’s become clear, over multiple voting cycles, public figures fail to influence in any way on voter decisions.”

She continued, “So then what am I doing? I’m just sharing my opinion on an issue that’s going to worsen tensions tearing the nation apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Jennifer Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing right and leftwing contenders over the years. Raised by a right-leaning family in her home state, she voted for John McCain in 2008 prior to switching to the Democratic party and stating she realized during Obama’s administration that backing conservatives was undermining her individual liberties as a woman.

Earlier Remarks

In 2015, she commented that Trump winning the presidency could represent “a catastrophic event” and publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she voiced her backing to Kamala Harris, “as I think she’s an excellent choice and I trust that she will make every effort to protect women’s health rights.”

Hollywood’s Stance

The star was supported by many in the entertainment industry in her opposition to the former president as a returning figure, but the lack of leverage public figures have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by the outcome.

“This upcoming term appears changed,” noted Lawrence of his leadership. “Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for his first term. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
